| Asia: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for seeking confirmation about a statement. |
| PATTERN |
| Asia: For example, "It is hot, right?" |
| Daniele: Fa caldo, vero? |
| Daniele: [slow] Fa caldo, vero? |
| Asia: The pattern for seeking confirmation about a statement or an assumption has 3 elements. First, the verb, in this case "to do,” conjugated in the third person singular. In this particular case, it means “it’s.” |
| Daniele: Fa |
| Asia: Second, an adjective, in this case "hot." |
| Daniele: caldo. |
| Asia: Third, an interjection, literally meaning "true?" This is more commonly translated as "right?" |
| Daniele: vero. |
| Asia: Altogether, we have, "It is hot, right?" |
| Daniele: Fa caldo, vero? [slow] Fa caldo, vero? [normal] Fa caldo, vero? |
| Asia: Start with a verb in the present tense followed by an adjective. Finally, after the statement comes the interjection seeking confirmation, vero? (“right?”). |
| Daniele: Fa caldo, vero? |
| Asia: So remember, to seek confirmation about a statement, simply state something you are unsure about and add the interjection meaning "right?" |
| Asia: Here's another example meaning, "It is early, right?" First, a verb, in this case "to be." |
| Daniele: Essere. It’s conjugated as è. |
| Asia: Second, an adjective, in this case "early." |
| Daniele: presto. |
| Asia: Third, an interjection literally meaning "true?” |
| Daniele: vero. |
