INTRODUCTION |
Asia: Hi everyone, I'm Asia. |
Daniele: And I'm Daniele. |
Asia: And welcome to Must-Know Italian Sentence Structures, Season 1, Lesson 10. Asking for Information About Something. |
Asia: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for asking for information about something. |
PATTERN |
Asia: For example, |
Asia: "What day is it?" |
Daniele: Che giorno è? |
Daniele: [slow] Che giorno è? |
Asia: The pattern for asking for information about something has 3 elements. First, an interrogative adjective, in this case "what." |
Daniele: Che. |
Asia: Second, the noun, 'day'. |
Daniele: giorno . |
Asia: Third, a verb, in this case "to be" conjugated in the third person singular. |
Daniele: è. |
Asia: Altogether, we have.. "What day is it?" |
Daniele: Che giorno è? [slow] Che giorno è? [normal] Che giorno è? |
Asia: Start with the word |
Daniele: che |
Asia: meaning “what”, followed by a noun. The interrogative adjective remains unchanged even if the noun that follows it is plural. The verb is conjugated in the third person singular. At the end you can add more details about what you want to ask about. |
Daniele: Che giorno è? |
Asia: So remember that to ask for information about something, start with the word |
Daniele: che |
Asia: meaning “what”, followed by a singular noun and a conjugated verb in the third person singular. |
Asia: Here is another example meaning, "What game do you play?" First, the interrogative adjective, in this case "what." |
Daniele: Che. |
Asia: Second, the noun, 'game'. |
Daniele: gioco. |
Asia: Third, a verb, in this case "to do" conjugated in the second person singular. |
Daniele: fai. |
Asia: Altogether we have.. |
Daniele: Che gioco fai? [slow] Che gioco fai? [normal] Che gioco fai? |
Asia: "What game do you play?" |
[pause] |
Daniele: Che gioco fai? |
Asia: How do you say - "What train is it?" To give you a hint, "train" is.. |
Daniele: treno. [slow] treno. [normal] treno. |
Asia: What train is it? |
[pause] |
Daniele: Che treno è? [slow] Che treno è? [normal] Che treno è? |
