Lesson Transcript

Hello everyone, welcome back to ItalianPod101.com.
My name is Desy, mi chiamo Desy, mi chiamo Desy and if you want to live in Italy, follow
me because in this video I'm going to teach you how to rent an apartment in Italian.
affittare un appartamento
Affittare is the verb to rent, while rent is affitto, double F, affitto and double T.
Appartamento is apartment, appartamento, while casa is used as home, house.
Vorrei affittare un appartamento.
I'd like to rent an apartment.
Vorrei affittare un appartamento tramite agenzia.
Or you can say, vorrei affittare un appartamento da privato, as a private individual.
It should be easier through an agency because they're going to look for it for you and then
show many options to you, but you have to pay them, of course.
So the choice is up to you, otherwise you can check online or newspapers, you know.
That being said, you can go to an agency and say, cerco una casa con minimo cinquanta
metri quadri, cerco una casa, I'm looking for a house, cerco un appartamento, I'm looking
for an apartment, con minimo, with minimum, cinquanta, fifty, metri quadri, square meter,
cinquanta metri quadri, fifty square meter.
In fact, metri quadri or quadrati, metri quadri, metri quadrati is square meter.
Some more useful words could be contratto, contract, proprietario, owner, landlord, while
you would be the tenant, right?
Divido l'espese condominiali con il mio co-inquilino, divido, I share, l'espese condominiali, condo
fees, con il mio, with my, co-inquilino, co-inquilino, co-inquilino, housemaid.
And spese condominiali are the fees, the expenses that you have to pay in order to live in that
apartment.
It's the amount of all those costs that every tenant has to pay, right?
So for example, cleaning the stairs or administrative costs and all of that, right?
But you may want to ask that before as well, before you even see the house, quanto sono
le spese condominiali?
How much for the condo fees?
Then let's move a bit on with our quest, we want to add some more criteria.
So for example, you may be looking for a monolocale, a studio, monolocale, un monolocale
è molto comodo per gli studenti, un monolocale, a studio flat, è molto comodo, it's really
useful, really convenient, è molto comodo per gli studenti, for students, per gli studenti,
un monolocale è molto comodo per gli studenti.
If you're not a student or if you are but you want a bigger house, a bigger apartment,
then you can look for a bilocale, bilocale or even a trilocale, trilocale, where of course
B stands for two, so two-room apartment or 3 stands for tree, this is a tree, not a two.
are called stanza, singular, stanze, plural or camera, camere if plural, stanza or camera
are both used for room, for example, io e mio marito, me and my husband cerchiamo una
casa, are looking for a house, cerchiamo una casa con almeno, con almeno, with at least
due camere da letto, two bedrooms, due camere da letto, io e mio marito cerchiamo una casa
con almeno due camere da letto, me and my husband are looking for a house with at least
two bedrooms, almeno, at least.
Now let's assume you found something interesting and you're going to see it, the first thing
that you see when you open the door is the entrance, l'ingresso, ingresso, entrance,
sometimes if it's narrow and long it's a corridoio, corridoio, hallway, corridoio, another
essential thing is il bagno, the bathroom, il bagno è in fondo al corridoio, il bagno
è in fondo al corridoio, the bathroom is at the end of the hallway, il bagno è al fondo
del corridoio, as important as the bathroom there is the kitchen, la cucina, or cucinino,
which is a small kitchen, kitchenette, il cucinino ha tutto quello che ti serve, the
kitchenette has everything you need, il cucinino, the kitchenette has everything ha tutto quello
che ti serve, everything that you need, then as we said before, camera da letto, bedroom,
camera da letto, where letto is bed and camera is room, la camera da letto è molto luminosa,
the bedroom is really bright, la camera da letto è molto luminosa, living room is salotto,
non c'è il salotto, there is no living room, non c'è il salotto, ma puoi mettere
il divano in cucina, but you can put the sofa in the kitchen, non c'è il salotto ma
puoi mettere il divano in cucina. And that's about the rooms that compose the house. Some more,
let's say, optionals that you can have are, for example, l'ascensore, the elevator, for
example, non avere l'ascensore ha dei lati positivi, not having the elevator has some
good points, some bright sides. Actually, I can just think about you having to take
the stairs, so being more healthy, but yeah, non avere l'ascensore può avere dei lati
positivi, bright sides, lati positivi. Then there is the garden, il giardino, garden,
giardino, se hai un cane, if you have a dog, se hai un cane, il giardino è utile,
the garden is useful, se hai un cane, il giardino è utile. And then let's say last but not
least, il balcone, the balcony. In fact, io amo prendere il caffè sul
balcone. Io amo prendere il caffè sul balcone. I love drinking coffee on the balcony. I
love having coffee on the balcony. Il balcone, for me, it's the most important criteria actually
when looking for a house, but that's just me. So I hope this video gave you some useful
vocabulary to rent an apartment in Italy and please let me know in the comments which one
is your favorite room. Quale è la tua stanza preferita? My favorite one is the balcony,
as I said, even though it's not technically a room. Thank you for watching. Remember to
