| Asia: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for asking about location or position. |
| PATTERN |
| Asia: For example, |
| Asia: "Where is the train station?" |
| Daniele: Dov'è la stazione dei treni? |
| Daniele: [slow] Dov'è la stazione dei treni? |
| Asia: The pattern for asking about location or position has 3 elements. First, an interrogative pronoun of place, "where." |
| Daniele: Dov'. |
| Asia: Second, the verb, "to be" conjugated in the third person singular. |
| Daniele: è. |
| Asia: Third, a noun or noun phrase, in this case "the train station." |
| Daniele: la stazione dei treni. |
| Asia: Altogether, we have.. "Where is the train station?" |
| Daniele: Dov'è la stazione dei treni? [slow] Dov'è la stazione dei treni? [normal] Dov'è la stazione dei treni? |
| Asia: Start with the interrogative pronoun |
| Daniele: dove |
| Asia: meaning “where”, followed by the verb “to be” conjugated in the third person singular, |
| Daniele: è. |
| Asia: The pronoun changes to |
| Daniele: dov' |
| Asia: when followed by the verb "to be" in the third person singular. After the verb is the subject, a noun or a noun phrase that is singular. If the subject is plural, the verb must be conjugated in the third person plural. |
| Daniele: Dov'è la stazione dei treni? |
| Asia: So remember that to ask about location or position, start with the word |
| Daniele: dove |
| Asia: meaning “where”, followed by a conjugated verb in the third person singular. Lastly, add a singular noun. When the subject is plural, conjugate the verb in the third person plural. |
| Asia: Here is another example meaning, "Where is the emergency room?" First, the interrogative pronoun of place, "where." |
| Daniele: Dov'. |
| Asia: Second, the verb, "to be" conjugated in the third person singular. |
| Daniele: è. |
| Asia: Last, a noun or noun phrase, in this case "the emergency room." |
| Daniele: il pronto soccorso. |
| Asia: Altogether we have.. |
| Daniele: Dov'è il pronto soccorso? [slow] Dov'è il pronto soccorso? [normal] Dov'è il pronto soccorso? |
| Asia: "Where is the emergency room?" |

| Daniele: Dov'è il pronto soccorso? |
| Asia: How do you say - "Where are the glasses?" To give you a hint, "glasses" is.. |
| Daniele: bicchieri. [slow] bicchieri. [normal] bicchieri. |
| Asia: Where are the glasses? |

| Daniele: Dove sono i bicchieri? [slow] Dove sono i bicchieri? [normal] Dove sono i bicchieri? |
